Spooky Halloween!!!

What Halloween would be complete without orange, spooky pancakes for breakfast? Well, not ours! Before you start getting critical of my artistic abilities, TRY IT. Pancake art requires a unique set of skills, of which I proudly possess, thank you very much. :)

And next on our festivities list is, of course, pumpkin carving. Yes, we actually carved three of the big ones. We had a carving party with Jason's brother, Kyle, his wife Laurie, and their cute kids, Jake, Lindy, and Reese. Jason and Kyle used a Saws-All to get into those humongous pumpkins while Laurie and I takled the small ones. Pumpkins guts are my favorite.

And speaking of guts, these bowls may look like they contain regular household items. Not so, as we discovered in our "Spooky touch n feel" game. They are actually blood, eyeballs, bat droppings, peeling skin, witch's fingernails, spider legs, frankenstein teeth, shriveled fingers, brains, mouse claws, wisps of ghost, dracula fangs, and lizard guts. I made my kids feel these without knowing what they were. They thought it was pretty gross . . . and cool. Hey - I had to do something festive during the day - this was my first year that my kids haven't been in school for Halloween. I didn't want them to miss out.

Trick-or-treating in Triple Crown is a thing to behold. I think most of the valley shows up in our neighborhood. And I don't blame them. People were giving out full-sized candy bars - it's the stuff of legend - I always heard about neighborhoods like that, but now I live in one. Amazing. Camie and Cody came trick-or-treating with us. They are so fun. I was really glad for the help, too. It's always tricky to keep someone manning the door, someone with the baby, someone with the older kids, and someone to take the younger ones home early. The kids had to come home to empty their bags, and then went out and filled them again. It took about half the time to get twice the candy. I'm not sure that's necessarily a good thing. But it's been two days, and their candy is still in the front room - they haven't touched it. I think the real fun for them is in the gathering - not the eating. I wish that I agreed . . . a week of all-inclusive food in Mexico (blog soon to come) followed by Halloween - not exactly the answer to lose weight. But that's neither here nor there. The real point of this entry is that we had a fun and spooky Halloween!!!

Next year I am coming to triple crown to trick-or-treat. You all look great by the way. How are you going to get rid of those pumpkins when they get rotten? I don't think they'll fit in your dumpster.
