Baseball, baseball, baseball

Summer is baseball right now for us. At seven games last week, we are having a ball (no pun intended). Irelynd, Drake and Zander are all playing, and all of their games are at the same time. Sad that we can't watch every moment of every one, but also nice because we can get three games over with in one hour. That's good time management right there. Here are some highlights:

This is Irelynd's first stint at baseball. She's actually pretty good. She's had some good hits, and throws further than several of the boys. She refused to look at me for a picture. ("Mom! I'm playing ball!")
Of course she's a very fast runner - I haven't seen her get out yet this year.

Drake really loves baseball. He's the veteran of the kids, having played a couple seasons of tee-ball already. He gets some pretty good hits, and runs with all his might. He's really getting a good feel for the rules and point of the game this time around.
He's happy because his best friend Mahonri McDougal is on his team - that makes it extra fun.

Zander is a serious baseball player. The only problem is that, unlike Drake, he doesn't grasp the rules of the game. But he plays it with gusto.

He uses his speedy-quick feet, intimidation, and pushing. . .
He played second base on his first game, and he was not going to let any other player on the other team touch that base. He had a shoving match out there with another little boy who was just trying to run the bases. I had to take a few pictures, then go out and break up the fight. He's actually a really good little hitter (now I'm talking about the ball), and usually manages to get it outfield - far further than most other members of his team. He's exciting to watch - for many reasons.
